Forest loanee Federico Macheda ‘not affected’ by Freedman departure

Federico Macheda arrived at the City Ground on the eve of Dougie Freedman’s final day in charge.

And with the Scot now gone, the former Manchester United striker will be keen to prove himself to new Head Coach Paul Williams.

The 24-year-old Italian has already started two games for the Reds but is yet to score, having featured in the 1-1 draw with Hull City or the defeat to rivals Derby County.

Macheda rose to fame after netting a winner on his Premier League debut for the Red Devils.

Today, he sat down with Notts TV‘s Christian Hewgill to discuss his hopes for the City Ground loan.

Macheda has not had much on-pitch action this season due to injury and was grateful to Freedman for giving him a chance.

He said: “This is a great opportunity, since last season I’ve had a back problem and I’ve not been able to perform as I wish to and I’ve been out of the team because of the back problem for more than three months last season and the start of this season.”

The Italian is enjoying life at the City Ground so far and refused to rule out a longer stay.

“It’s a great club and I wouldn’t mind staying,” he added.

I can score goals for this team

Forward Macheda was put straight into a Forest side short on goals and told us he was happy with the side’s performances since he came in.

“I came in and played straight away and that’s great. It’s been good for me so far. I think as a team we have done a great job. We played two of the best teams in the league and I think we dominated them, especially in the first half of Derby.

“We were unlucky not to get three points in at least one of those two games.”

The goal-shy Reds are behind only MK Dons for least goals scored this season in the SkyBet Championship, but Macheda insists the pressure to score is no different.

“As a striker, you’re always under pressure to score goals. I think we’re playing well and goals will come. I’m sure if I get the chances, I’ll put them in. I can score goals for this team,” said the 24-year-old.

Forest do not take to the field again until they face Brentford at the City Ground on April 2nd (3pm kick-off) by which time Britt Assombalonga and Henri Lansbury could be ready for a return to the side.
