A Worksop bar which has been closed for the last 18 months could be turned into offices under new plans.
Mac & Co on Bridge Place closed due to the impact of the pandemic lockdowns and a downturn in the pub industry.
It was put on the market in January 2023 for £325,000, although there has been no interest from anyone wanting to keep it as a bar.
The Nottingham-based Planning & Design Group have submitted plans to convert the building into seven offices instead.
“Due to poor trading conditions, including a shift in consumer preferences and the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the public house ceased trading and the building has been vacant for the last 18 months,” planning documents say.
“It has been marketed from January 2023. The marketing agent has advised that other than the applicant, the property received no interest.
“The proposal would represent a positive redevelopment opportunity for an otherwise vacant building, contributing to a diversified town centre in Worksop.
“In particular, it would result in a vacant building being re-purposed to support the economic growth of Worksop.
“It is intended that some of the space will be occupied by companies linked directly to the applicant and the remaining offices will be let on a flexible basis.”
The bar has gone under several names in recent years, including Glass House, Corner House, and Bar Xcetra.
Adverts from when the property was on the market says it has the capacity for 370 customers at once, and has the potential for a micro-brewery in the cellar.
The plans have been submitted to Bassetlaw District Council, and will be determined at a later date.
Many smaller pubs and bars struggled following the pandemic, with some never reopening, and even national chains like Wetherspoons have announced closures.
A change in drinking habits has also been blamed, with people more likely to stay at home and save money.
