Former world champion Carl Froch retires from boxing

The four time world super-middleweight champion from Nottinghamshire has announced his retirement from boxing.

The 38-year-old boxing legend, nicknamed The Cobra, has won 33 of his 35 fights, 24 of those being knock out victories.

The father of two will be working with Sky Sports to give his expertise during their boxing coverage now that he’s hung up his gloves for good.

His last ever fight saw him defeat George Groves in the Wembley Stadium re-match in front of 80,000 fans in May 2014.

The Nottingham born boxer told Notts TV: “I’ve had a fantastic career, I turned 38 last week and feel like there’s nothing left for me to do or prove.

“The fight for me that I wanted that would have been a boxed ticked at the end of a fantastic career was the Las Vegas fight and with that one falling through in march this year, nothing else has come up that’s potentially a good option for me, so I just think now’s the time.

I’ve been out of the ring for a year now and it’s never a good ending when you’ve been out of the boxing ring for a year and come back and try to do something at top level.

Carl added: “I’m retiring on the top, at the top and I’m very very happy.”

The legendary boxer said he’s looking forward to his new career with Sky Sports boxing as he’ll still be involved in the sport.
