Nottingham City Council has confirmed the full list of candidates standing in the local election on May 4.

The count will begin from 10am at the Harvey Hadden Sport Village on Friday, May 5, with results expected later that day.

Since its inception in 1992, Nottingham City Council has been Labour-led.

While it lost two seats in 2019, the Labour Party managed to retain overall control of the council, winning 50 out of 55 seats.

A new leader was then elected in David Mellen, who took over from Jon Collins.

At the same time a new group, the Nottingham Independents, won all three seats in Clifton East and became the second-largest party on the council.

However the Conservatives lost one of three seats, in Wollaton West.

This year there have been some marked changes, with current Conservative councillors, Andrew Rule and Roger Steel, leaving the party to stand as independents.

The 2023 election will also be the first time voters must bring photo ID to polling stations.

A full list of appropriate ID cards is available on the Government’s website, as is the case with all council websites.

Melbourne Barrett, returning officer at Nottingham City Council, said: “With City Council elections taking place in Nottingham on 4 May 2023, it is important that those who want to vote at a polling station make sure they have an accepted form of ID.

“Residents who do not have one of the accepted forms of ID can apply for free voter ID either online or by completing a paper application form and sending this to council’s Electoral Services team.”

Below is a list of all candidates standing in each Nottingham ward, listed in alphabetical surname order.

In brackets is the number of council seats up for grabs.
