Internet and phone services are returning to thousands of homes and businesses in south Nottinghamshire after cable damage caused more than 24 hours of outages.
Network operator Openreach said criminal damage affected more than 700 metres of cabling close to a telecommunications exchange near Trent Bridge in Nottingham, on Sunday.
Homes and business across Rushcliffe then began to experience outages from 11.30am Sunday morning, with West Bridgford, Radcliffe-on-Trent, Bingham and Cotgrave all affected.
The company said up to 10,000 premises were hit, and apparent damage and theft were the cause.
Openreach engineers working to fix the problem said cable replacements done throughout Monday (October 14) meant customers would start to see services return overnight.
A spokesperson for Openreach said on Monday afternoon (October 14): “Work is well underway to restore broadband, with the new 700 metre cable put in place earlier today, and the first premises being reconnected this afternoon.
“Our engineers are working as quickly and safely as they can do.
“For many homes and businesses, broadband will be up and running later today, with engineers working through the night and into Tuesday to complete the remaining connections.”
Bingham, Cotgrave, Long Bennington, Leabrooks, Radcliffe on Trent, Whatton, Waltham-on-the-Wolds, Clitheroe, Withdean and Verwood have been listed by the company as the areas which may be affected.
West Bridgford and the Meadows have also had problems. The outage is believed to affect a number of internet providers, while others including Virgin Media fibre customers unaffected.
Many of the properties hit by the outage have been small businesses who have lost card machines and ordering services.
Openreach runs large sections of national phone and broadband infrastructure, with services provided and sold by a number of different companies.
