Pioneering Irish micro-bar opens in former Hucknall shop

A Hucknall couple have opened the first Irish micro-bar in the county inspired by trips to Dublin and drinks in other micro-boozers across Nottingham.

Lynette Henry and Gary Ashworth are preparing for the first weekend of business at Lyngary’s Microbar on Annesley Road in Hucknall having opened on Wednesday (May 10).

The couple hope their business, inside a former shop unit, will appeal to anyone looking for an alternative place to enjoy a drink.

Gary said: “I worked for Magpie Brewery and as a salesman I was going to a lot of micro-pubs which tend to have a real ale focus.

“I’m quite passionate about my craft beer so I wanted to push that in Hucknall and Lynette is passionate about wines, cocktails and gins.

“Lynette is half-Irish and I love Ireland, when we met, ten days later I had booked us a flight to Dublin.

“We visited Temple Bar TradFest, which is a big music and drink festival with pubs everywhere.

“From that we said ‘why don’t we combine the two?’, micro-pub and Irish-bar equals, micro-bar.”

Lynette said: “It is about selling something for everyone so we have a good range of cocktails and a good range of flavoured gins, which is the big rage at the moment and also Irish whiskies.

“We have actually bought back some Temple Bar Irish whisky which is not yet available for export to the U.K.

“People have been trying that and enjoying it which is great.”
