Four tiny kittens found by a builder on a demolition site in Nottingham are being bottle-fed and cared for until they get new owners.

Four-week-old Digger, Roley, Pilchard and Dizzy were taken to the RSPCA’s Derby branch, after being found on Arkwright Walk the Meadows.

They were taken in by the RSCPA’s Derby centre where receptionist Karen Dickson is giving them round-the-clock care.

Karen said: “We are not sure whether the kittens were abandoned or they were stray and something happened to their mother.”

Arkwright Walk is being knocked down to create a new housing complex in the Meadows.

Karen added: “Fortunately they were not seriously injured.

“One of them had a sore eye and we are giving it antibiotics, but with our help they will all reach eight weeks of age, and then they will be ready to be given to new owners.

“I am very happy to say that one of them has already been reserved.”

Digger, Roley, Pinchard and Dizzy are just some of thousands of animals that have been rescued by RSPCA staff and volunteers over the Christmas period across the country.

However, according to Karen, kittens are not the most common pets to be found in this time of the year.

Karen said: “During ‘kittens time’, which goes from April to September, we received daily calls about little cats that need to be rescued, but it is quite a rare thing over the Christmas period.”

She added: “I just want to say this – if you do not want to take care of your pets any more and you are thinking of abandoning them, know that you can give them to us instead of putting them on the street.”
