‘He knows how to run a team’: Greeks in Nottingham back Marinakis after Forest takeover

A Greek Nottingham businessman and Olympiacos fan says Evangelos Marinakis’ takeover of Nottingham Forest could be the best choice for the Reds.

Emilios Polimos, of Emilios Restaurant in Arnold, supports the club Marinakis runs in his home nation, as well as following the Reds.

Marinakis completed his long-awaited takeover of Nottingham Forest yesterday and if his reign is anything like the one at his Greek side, Emilios says Forest could be in store for a great future.

“He knows how to run a football team and he gives everything to the team, it is his life,” Emilios said.

“He has never been scared to spend money because he wants the best for the team, he has spent millions of euros in Olympiacos.”

Marinakis is owner of Greek champions Olympiacos.

Emilios expects Marinakis to “stay in the background” and let people around him run the football club.

He said: “He acts like a president for the club and I wish more presidents were like him because he remains in the background.

“He likes his private life and is not a person that is going to be in the media all time, he brings in people to handle the football side.”

Emilios has been working at his restaurant for 20 years and has also become a close follower of Forest.

He said: “I like Forest, they are a great team with great fans. I am always happy to see Greek players at Forest, Apostolos Vellios is a lovely character and hopefully he will have a big role next year.”

If Marinakis ever misses some home-cooking while in Nottingham, Emilio says he is welcome.

“Marinakis is welcome anytime, it would be so nice to have the team come.”
