Lace Exhibition opens in Nottingham

To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the Nottingham Bobbin Lace Society, a lace exhibition is being held in the city.

The exhibition is being held at St Andrews with Castle Gate Church and will include demonstrations, workshops and examples of lace work through the years.

Organiser and Lace Designer Louise West, hopes that the exhibition will help to encourage young people to learn the skills.

“Numbers are down from previous years but by the nature of people’s age, we lose members,” she said.

“We are encouraging youngsters to take it up because it is an interesting hobby away from digital and it is something that can occupy your mind and can be quite therapeutic.”

Lace is a big part of the history in Nottingham and was the main export of the city during the industrial revolution with products being sent to all parts of the British Colony.

The exhibition is on until Saturday 15th August.
