A mugger grabbed a woman by the neck and punched her repeatedly in the face in a terrifying Lenton robbery.

The victim had her handbag stolen on Faraday Road at 8.30pm on Tuesday (January 17).

Police are appealing for witnesses and say several people were on the streets around that time, including two joggers.

The attacker grabbed the woman around the neck from behind but she screamed and fought back before the man ran towards Derby Road, where it is believed he met another man and ran to Gregory Street.

They were then chased by a passer-by as far as Leen Gate, behind Queens Medical Centre, and the handbag was dropped but the victim’s purse had been taken.

The robber was white, in his 30s, around 6ft and of a slim build.

He was last seen wearing a dark woollen beanie hat, black jacket possibly with white stripes down the arms and a local accent.

Anyone who recognises the description or saw anything suspicious in the area is asked to contact Notts Police on 101 quoting incident 739 of January 17.
