Live at the Hall event welcomes indie rock legends to Wollaton Park

Live at the Hall 2024 stage
An indie rock Live at the Hall event featuring Razorlight, Feeders and The Pigeon Detectives takes place tonight at Wollaton Park.

Bands including Razorlight, Feeder and The Pigeon Detectives are in town for the debut of a new Wollaton Park gig on Friday night (August 30).

Called ‘Live at the Hall’, it is the only similar major music event at the park this summer following the announcement there would be no Splendour Festival for 2024.

Feeder frontman Grant Nicholas told Notts TV, “this is our last UK show of the summer so it feels quite emotional”.

This is the band’s first time playing at Wollaton Hall, but after soundchecks and worries over an injured guitarists being resolved, they feel prepared for the show.

“It’s gorgeous here,” The bands bass guitarist Taka Hirose said.

“I actually went for a run earlier here earlier in the day and saw all the deer everywhere,” Grant added, “it was amazing, really inspiring.”

The band is returning to Nottingham after playing a gig at Rock City earlier this year.

“You can’t beat Rock City, it’s one of the best venues,” said Grant.

“There’s great crowds and it’s a really vibey place. It feels intimate even though it’s quite big.”

“You know when you get into the venue, there’s sticky floors,” said Taka.

“But that’s rock and roll; sticky floors” added Grant.

The concert marks the last UK gig of the summer for Feeder musicians Grant Nicholas and Taka Hirose of Feeder.

Feeder have seen a spike in attention on indie rock in recent years, both from band reunions drawing more focus to the genre and a new generation of fans coming of age.

“To have that is really good for a band that’s been going for 30 years like Feeder,” Grant said.

“I’ve noticed we’ve got some really young kids at our shows now. I mean some on their parents shoulders.”

The next move for Feeder is a stint in Europe, with Malta being their next destination, but they also have a few surprised in stall for fans.

“We’ve got a few plans for next year, I can’t say exactly what it is,” Grant said, “but it’s going to be something a bit different. We might revisit some of our older works and there’s talk about going back to Japan.”

A second Live at the Hall event will take place tomorrow (August 31) headlined by Hacienda and featuring acts including Danny Tenaglia, Roger Sanchez.

Splendour festival is expected to return in July 2025 after this year’s event was called off because of delays in a Nottingham City Council tendering process which organisers DHP said had made arranging 2025’s event impractical.
