The location of a new indoor street food market in Nottingham has been revealed by the organisers.

Nottingham Street Food Club has announced it will open the venture at the Victoria Centre before the summer.

The 150-seater venue will feature four hot food stalls and a bar, all run by local independent traders.

Organisers announced the market earlier this month but said they would reveal the venue at a later date.

Nathaniel Wilson, who runs the club, said: “It’s the perfect location for us and will give a number of really talented Nottingham-based traders the opportunity to showcase what they do to a really big audience.

“The ethos of the market will be that we will be able to incubate and rotate small businesses throughout the course of the year, allowing the people of Nottingham to eat global but dine local.

“We have so many amazing independent traders here and this will give them the perfect platform to expand what they are already doing so well.”

The Street Food Club will be on the upper mall of the Clock Tower dining area at the Victoria Centre and is expected to open this spring.

Among the traders will be former MasterChef contestant Pete Hewitt, who runs Homeboys, an Asian street food business.

Nigel Wheatley, Nottingham general manager for Victoria Centre operators intu, said: “This is going to be an absolutely fantastic addition not only to the centre but to Nottingham as a whole.

“The street food scene is growing; we’ve seen first-hand just how popular the Homeboys truck has been when it’s been here, so we can’t wait for the Street Food Club to arrive.

“We are hugely supportive of independent retailers and are really excited to see the different cuisines that are going to be on offer at the venue throughout the year.”

The Clock Tower dining area was built in 2015 as part of a £40m refurbishment of the shopping centre.

But Joe’s Kitchen, which opened on the top floor, closed in October after trading for less than a year.

Initially the market will open Friday to Sunday from noon to 11.30pm, but Nathaniel is expecting strong demand and hopes to be able to open seven days a week before the end of the year.

Nathaniel added: “The street food scene in Nottingham is growing all the time and I know that this is going to be really popular – so hopefully it won’t be long before we’re opening full time, that’s the aim.”
