Police arrested a man after a stand-off which caused traffic chaos across Nottingham.

Mansfield Road was shut for five hours on Thursday afternoon after a man climbed on to the roof of a Sikh temple on the junction with Villa Road.

Buses were diverted around the cordon and several NCT services reported delays of up to 45 minutes.

Thousands of motorists also found themselves in hour-long queues on the east side of the city while police negotiators attempted to talk the man down.

A spokesman for Notts Police said the incident ended around 7pm when the man came down from the roof safely.

They added: “A 30-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of assault and causing a public nuisance and is being questioned by officers.”
