A man has been jailed for five years for sexually assaulting and touching a 13-year-old girl.
William Barry Levick, 78, formerly of the Mansfield area, pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting the child and five counts of sexually touching her between January 1 and February 4 2017.
He was sentenced on Wednesday March 22 at Nottingham Crown Court.
The victim first told police what happened on February 4, telling officers Levick had been abusing her since Christmas 2016.
The Crown Court heard how Levick had sent numerous texts and Facebook messages to the victim which she screenshot and sent on to Notts Police.
Inspector Natasha Todd said: “This child suffered terrible abuse at the hands of Levick and I am pleased she found the courage to tell someone what had happened to her so that we could take swift action against him and bring him to justice.
“I hope she can now try to move on with her life and put this dreadful ordeal behind her.
“I hope this sentencing shows that we will listen to victims of abuse and investigate thoroughly if they come forward and report what has happened to them.”
