Man recovering in hospital after Lenton stabbing

Lenton, stabbing, Nottingham,

A man is in hospital after being stabbed in Lenton in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The 30-year-old was attacked on Willoughby Street at around 4.30am on Sunday.

He was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre with injuries to his body and head but police said the man remains in a stable condition in hospital this morning.

There were also reports of gunshots in the area around the time of the incident, which police are investigating.

Rosa Lopez, 25, who was staying at her boyfriend’s home on Willoughby Street at the time of the incident, said: “I woke up at 3am, there was loads of noise and cars and what sounded like a party outside but I didn’t hear anything after.

“In the morning there were hundreds of police and we thought someone had been killed or something.

“We were really scared of course. My boyfriend told me that the neighbourhood is a bit dangerous but I didn’t expect something like this to happen.”

A Notts Police spokesman said a 24-year-old man had been arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and is being questioned.

They added officers were looking into reports a gun was fired into the air after the attack.

The attack comes just four days after Aqib Mazhar was fatally stabbed in Forest Fields, although the incidents aren’t thought to be related.

Officers are urging anyone with any information to contact them on 101 quoting incident number 203 of June 5, 2016.
