Man taken to hospital after ‘serious assault’ in Nottingham city centre

A man is in hospital after what police described as a ‘serious assault’ close to Old Market Square in Nottingham.

A police cordon was put in place after the attack, which happened just before 3am on Saturday morning, on St James’s Street.

Officers called to the incident found the man, in his 50s, with serious injuries and he was taken to the Queen’s Medical Centre.

A Notts Police spokesman said officers were waiting for a hospital update on his condition on Saturday morning.

The cordon closed off the Old Market Square end of St James’s Street, close to Lloyds bank.
