A man who helped launch a ‘vicious and unprovoked’ attack on a bystander filming a fight in Nottingham City Centre has been jailed.
Otis Wilson, 32, was involved in a fight between his friends and another group of men in the Lace Market in the early hours of August 22, 2021.
The victim, who was a bystander, began filming the incident on his mobile phone.
CCTV footage showed Wilson and his group turning their attention to the bystander once they noticed him recording, then launching an assault which saw him forced to the floor as they kicked and stamped on his head and body.
Following the assault, the victim was left with a broken jaw in two places, requiring him to undergo surgery to be fitted with a metal plate.
Wilson, of Primrose Close, St Ann’s, appeared at Nottingham Crown Court on April 25, where he was jailed for a total 27 months after pleading guilty to affray and being found guilty of occasioning grievous bodily harm without intent.
The other suspects involved in the attack appeared in court in April 2024, and were also sentenced.
Det Sgt Parminder Ahluwalia, of Notts Police, said: “Otis Wilson and the group launched a vicious and unprovoked attack on a man who was simply enjoying the night with his friends.
“This kind of violence is unacceptable and I hope this sentence sends out a very clear message to others who think they can behave in a similar way that we will do everything to ensure they face the courts.”
