Twelve flats in Mansfield will be given a £720,000 makeover to make them more energy efficient.
Mansfield District Council has been given £360,000 by the Government to lower carbon emissions from social flats, at Farnsfield Court and Shireoaks Court, on the Bellamy Road estate.
Tenants will save hundreds of pounds on their annual energy bills.
The homes will receive a “whole house retrofit”, which focuses on improving the fabric of the house including walls, the roof, floors, windows and doors.
The revamp also improves ventilation, heating and cooling during the summer months.
It comes as part of the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy’s nationwide Social Housing Decarbonisation scheme, with Bassetlaw District Council also applying for funding.
The council will match-fund the Government’s £360,000 from its capital reserves.
Documents approved during a delegated decision by the authority’s financial portfolio holder on Monday, July 12, said the funds will “stand the council in good stead” for the future.
They added: “With a particular focus on kick-starting a green recovery, the council now has the opportunity to move ahead with a pilot project using innovative solutions that aim to significantly reduce property emissions, heat loss and running costs for residents.
“The acceptance of grant will not only improve 12 units of accommodation and lower carbon emissions but will also stand the council in good stead for future funding streams to improve its stock.”
The project will be supported and led by Nottinghamshire County Council, which is holding the grant on behalf of the district council.
