An elderly Mansfield woman twice burgled in her own home was helped by two local heroes who have now been given special awards.
PCSO Amanda Parkes and Warden Frank Redmond have been honoured by the district council after befriending the woman and helping her to recover after she was targeted by thieves.
Amanda and Frank first met the victim, who has not been named, when they noticed her house was looking unkempt and decided to knock on the door.
After discovering she had no friends or family to turn to they became friends with her.
But within a few weeks they twice found her in a state of shock after thieves had talked their way inside her home – on the second occasion taking £1,000 cash.
She has now been moved to a residential home – but the duo are still visiting her there to offer companionship.
Amanda and Frank have now been given Mayor’s Commendation Awards by Mansfield Distict Council for going “beyond the call of duty”.
Mayor Allsop said: “I cannot thank Amanda and Frank enough for the support they gave to this lady and the difference it has made.”

The other two people to receive awards were wife and husband Eddie and Kath Ratcliffe who have been working at the Mansfield Palace Theatre for several years.
