A man who drove back over a Nottingham mum after running her down and killing her has been sent to prison for five years.

Johan Martin reversed into Melanie Dolby in Gamble Street in Radford as crowds of people gathered after a party nearby.

Miss Dolby had been walking to Moog Bar when she was hit by the Mondeo driven by Martin, 20.

After hitting and killing her her, he drove over her again before getting out and running from the scene.

He admitted causing death by dangerous driving during the incident in the early hours of June 21.

Birmingham Crown Court had earlier heard he tried to speed away from the street after someone made a threat to him, but hit the 48-year-old Miss Dolby and her friend, Leroy Taylor, who was seriously injured but survived.

Martin only had a provisional driving licence and the car belonged to a friend who was in the passenger seat at the time.

Det Chief Insp Rob Severn of Notts Police said: “Johan Martin was not qualified to drive the car and had a complete disregard for anyone else in his path as he reversed at speed away from the party.

“As a result of his actions Miss Dolby was struck by the car and subsequently lost her life.

“The sentence will not be of any consolation to Melanie’s family and friends who have lost someone who was clearly much-loved. Our thoughts go out to them at this time.”
