Murder investigation launched after city centre death

Police have launched a murder investigation after the death of a man in the city centre in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The victim, who is yet to be named, died following a fight in Thurland Street.

A total of seven men have been arrested in connection with the incident and remain in police custody.

Cordons have been removed on Thurland Street at the junction with Clinton Street and Clumber Street where the incident is said to have taken place.

Pelham Street has also been re-opened.

A spokesperson for the police said: “We believe that the seven people now in custody were involved in the fight but there may have been more involved who have not yet been traced.”
