Mystery body found on Nottinghamshire border still unidentified a year on

The identity of the mystery man who was found dead on the Nottinghamshire / Lincolnshire border last year is still unknown, according to police.

Officers from Nottinghamshire Police have released an e-fit image of the unknown man in an attempt to find out who he is.

The release of the image comes a year after the unknown body was found in a caravan in Beckingham, Gainsborough, just on the Nottinghamshire / Lincolnshire border.

Post-mortem examinations that took place after the discovery found that the man, who was believed to be in his 50s, could have been dead for up to six months.

Detectives have been working over the past year to try to identify him.

“We are still treating the death as unexplained and, at this stage, we do not believe there has been any foul play,” said Detective Inspector Ash Wilson of Nottinghamshire Police

“We think he may have entered the caravan for shelter and subsequently died there.

“Our main goal is to identify this man and reunite him with his family.”

Mystery

Finger print and DNA checks have failed to produce any clues; the man has no identifying marks such as tattoos or piercings.

The mystery man was found by a member of the public on March, 13, last year.

“He may not be from the area. He may have travelled here from Eastern Europe to work but somewhere there is a mother missing a son, a wife missing a husband or a child missing a father,” added DI Wilson.

“We are desperate to get him back to his family and believe the public hold the key.”

He had no obvious signs of injury, no identification and does not fit any match of people reported missing in nearby areas.

“Our main goal is to identify this man and reunite him with his family.”

Detective Inspector Ash Wilson, Nottinghamshire Police.

At the time, officers said that they believed the man had entered the caravan for shelter and subsequently died.

He was dressed in a grey Slazenger round collared t-shirt under a blue Umbro zipped tracksuit top. Over this was a blue Levi denim jacket. He was also wearing blue BugJo jeans and white Slazenger trainers.

If you know who the man is or have any information contact police on 101, quoting incident 286 of 13 March 2014, or call Crimestoppers anonymously 0800 555 111.
