Ten new shops and restaurants at the new-look Victoria Centre will create 250 jobs and boost the local economy.
The new facilities are part of a regeneration project at the centre, which includes a redesign of the inside and outside of the building.
Amongst the new shops and restaurants opening include Handmade Burger Co, Joe’s Café and Toys ‘R’ Us.
The £40m investment work started two years ago, with 3,000 local construction jobs created.
The improvements are expected to be finished in time for Christmas.
As part of overall plans, intu says restaurants will stay open until 10pm and that they hope some of the larger shops will follow suit, allowing visitors longer hours to shop.
Once work on the centre is complete, intu says it will begin work on the Broadmarsh centre next year, which it also owns.
It really puts Nottingham back in its rightful place
Janine Bone, regional manager at intu, said: “We have planning permission at Broadmarsh to start work there to develop the centre, and that’s our next plan.
“We then intend to come back to the Victoria Centre in four or five years time to extend the centre again. So this is just the start of a huge investment by intu into our city centre.”
Joe’s Café will be the first of the new restaurants to open on October 30 and will create 30 new permanent jobs.

Christopher Latimer, Joe’s Café general manager said: “The centre is a fantastic location, but the food offering here has always been a bit lax, so we felt that it was really something we wanted to get involved in to bring fresh quality produce to the people of Nottingham.”
Most of the new restaurants are clustered together in the top half of the centre, which will be known as the Clocktower dining area.
Mrs Bone added: “I think it’s really exciting to have these new restaurants open in this fantastic modern and bright space, it really puts Nottingham back in its rightful place on the top of the retail map.”
