Nottingham Forest crash out of the cup as County progress

Notts County caused one of the biggest shocks of the first round of the Capital One Cup last night after knocking out Championship side Huddersfield Town.

Midfielder Liam Noble scored both goals in their 2-1 win at the John Smith’s Stadium.

The Magpies fell behind in the first half after Murray Wallace scored with a free header from six yards out.

However, the lead for Huddersfield was short lived when Noble equalised with a low strike from the edge of the penalty are just 7 minutes later.

Noble sealed the win in the 56th minute with a spectacular lob from 35 yards out.

Full back Gill Swerts was sent off late on for a second bookable offence but Notts County held on and booked their place in the second round.

Nottingham Forest were on the wrong side of a cup upset, losing 3-4 to Walsall at the City Ground.

A hat-trick from Tom Bradshaw gave the Saddlers the win against a strong Forest side.

Tyler Walker scored Forest’s first goal and second half substitute Michail Antonio scored twice in the defeat.

There was also a loss for Mansfield Town who went down 4-1 away to Sheffield Wednesday.

Ryan Tafazolli scored the only goal for the Stags at the end of the first half in a match that was largely dominated by Wednesday.

Their manager Adam Murray said that there were still positives to take out of the game despite the result.

They face local rivals Notts County at Meadow Lane on Friday Night.
