Famous cycling legends will be riding through Nottingham today as the Tour of Britain returns to the city for the first time since 2012.
Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish and Tour De France winner Chris Froome will come to the end of the sixth stage of the tour at the Forest Recreation Ground after cycling a 198km journey from Stoke to Nottingham.
The Tour of Britain features around 120 of the world’s top professional cyclists, who form 20 teams and compete throughout nine stages to win a place on the podium.
The riders will be entering Trowell from 2:35pm onwards, where they will continue to Wollaton, Priory Island, the University of Nottingham and the towards the city.
People hoping to catch the final stage of the tour in Nottingham are advised to gather at the Forest Recreation Ground between 2:50pm and 3:50pm.
To catch cycling favourites along the route, the top viewing hotspots are at Priory Island, Derby Road, Lenton Boulevard and Gregory Boulevard.
Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council said Nottingham is hugely looking forward to welcoming the Tour of Britain. for the first time since 2012.
He said: “Cycling is a massive and important part of our heritage, and our future too as we begin works in the £6.1million project to improve cycling routes around the city.”
Nottingham City Council has recommended that road users avoid the tour route completely between 2-4pm, and advises that traffic around the Forest Recreation Ground may be heavier than usual after 4pm, when the event ends.
