City centre pub, Spanky Van Dyke’s has apologised for posting references to Caitlyn Jenner’s transformation on their advertising board.
Spanky Van Dyke’s on Goldsmith Street wrote a message on their chalkboard outside the pub that made reference to reality star, Caitlyn Jenner, who recently revealed her transition from Bruce.
Shortly after the star showed her new appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, the pub wrote “Our buns are fresher than Bruce Jenner’s! #Transbanter #Tranter.”
Since the chalkboard was seen by passers by, the bar has been receiving messages on Facebook and Twitter with a series of complaints.
Alex Baker wrote: “Transbanter isn’t funny, doesn’t get me in for a burger. It’s transphobic, it’s not acceptable.”
After the incident, the bar followed it up with an apology written on the chalkboard reading: “We didn’t mean to offend…Today’s special – Humble Pie. We are sorry and we love you all.”
Some people were happy to forgive the staff at the bar after their apology.
Emma Duncan wrote: “I, personally say “fair do’s” to Spanky’s for issuing their response so quickly. I don’t think they meant to offend.”
