Nottingham to welcome the Aviva Tour of Britain

Nottingham is gearing up to welcome some of the top cyclists in the World from the Aviva Tour of Britain to the city on Friday 11th September.

120 riders from 20 of the World’s top teams will arrive between 2:50pm and 3:50pm on 11 September, providing locals and visitors with an exhilarating city finish to stage 6 of the race.

Amongst those riding will be world famous cyclists Sir Bradley Wiggins, Mark Cavendish, and Kristian House.

Riders will commence their journey from Stoke-on-Trent and make their way across the hills of Derbyshire before their 192.8km journey ends at the Forest Recreation Ground.

The Forest will be hosting free activities including live music for visitors to enjoy whilst they await the finish and Home-made Café will be open and will be serving food and drink with space to watch the finish from the terrace.

 

Councillor Dave Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure and Culture at Nottingham City Council, said;

“Nottingham is hugely looking forward to welcoming the Tour of Britain for the first time since 2012. Cycling is a massive and important part of our heritage, and our future too as we begin works in the £6.1 million project to improve cycling routes around the city.

Coverage of the Aviva Tour of Britain will be seen in more than 200 million homes around the world which is guaranteed to raise Nottingham’s profile as a Global destination for visitors and investors.

Nottingham’s Biocity has partnered with Nottingham City Council to become the headline sponsor of Stage 6 of the tour.
