Nottinghamshire County Council deciding next year’s budget

Councillors from Nottinghamshire County Council are currently debating next year’s annual budget.

The authority is proposing to raise council tax by 1.99% and make around £30m worth of savings from last year’s budget because of cuts in central government funding.

The Labour administration in charge of the council are proposing the cuts.

The Children and Young People sector is set for more than a £10m reduction, while the Adult Social Care and Health Department may have more than £11m cut from its budget.

Speaking about the savings, Councillor David Kirkham, said:

The challenge to find more is becoming increasingly difficult.

“We regret that we have been put in this financial situation but I am proud of the way this labour group has responded.”

Updates to follow.
