Nottinghamshire paramedics have 40 new robot’s designed to help them save lives

A new device is helping East Midlands Ambulance Service to save lives. The Lucas Two system mimics a compression action when a patient is having a cardiac arrest.

A new device is revolutionising the way that East Midlands Service can respond to a patient having a cardiac arrest.

The Lucas Two is a mechanical chest compressor which mimics the compression action. Normally this requires both physical endurance and consistency from a paramedic.

The system facilitates consistent blood flow from the moment it starts to improve the patient’s chances of survival.

It can take up to an hour before paramedics can know whether it is safe to move a patient when responding to a heart attack, throughout that time they have to continue to keep the compression action on the patient’s chest going.

The robot allows paramedics to perform other important tasks whilst the device keeps working.

The machines are being spread to areas of Nottinghamshire where people are most at risk, which is those furthest away from a hospital. Paramedics hope this will allow them to save more lives and believe it will make their job easier.
