Notts Police Chief Constable Chris Eyre is leaving the force to take up a new role in Cyprus.

Mr Eyre will depart next month to take up the chief’s job at the Sovereign Base Area Police on the island.

The force is the local civilian police force for the British controlled areas of Akrotiri and Dhekelia in Cyprus.

Deputy Chief Constable Sue Fish has agreed to move her planned retirement from June 23 until March 31 in order to temporarily take over Mr Eyre’s role.

Mr Eyre said: “I am proud of all the officers and staff I have had the privilege of leading during my six years here.

“Together we have shown that this is one of the finest forces in the country.

“I have had the pleasure of working with many community leaders and partners during my time here.”

I wish him well in his challenging new role

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping  said: “Chris Eyre has been an outstanding Chief Constable for Nottinghamshire.

“Crime in Nottinghamshire is falling faster than almost anywhere else in the UK and Nottinghamshire Police is the fastest improving police force in England and Wales.

“I wish him well in his challenging new role.”

He confirmed a new Chief Constable will be appointed on April 1 2017.
