A Nottinghamshire MP has been appointed as a member of Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn’s shadow cabinet.
Ashfield MP Gloria De Piero is one of 20 appointments to Labour’s frontbench opposition.
She has been selected as the shadow justice minister, a year after resigning from the cabinet following the EU referendum in June last year after the loss of the Remain campaign which Labour MPs campaigned for.
She told Notts TV: “I am looking forward to holding this Conservative Government to account and to taking up issues such as fair access to legal aid, reoffending rates and making sure victims of crime are protected and looked after properly.”
Mr Corbyn said all the appointments filled Labour’s frontbench with a “wealth of talent” and and mean “Labour is not just the opposition” but a “Government in waiting”.
Former Coronation Street actress Tracy Brabin, who won the Batley and Spen seat in the by-election in October 2016 prompted by Jo Cox’s murder which she retained in last month’s snap general election, has been appointed to the education team.
