Nottinghamshire Police are recruiting new officers for the first time in two years.
This comes after the police force froze recruiting for two years as a result of cuts in government funding.
Reports say that Notts Police are looking to take on around 25 more officers this year with a target of taking on 60 next year.
We have made sufficient savings to enable us to recruit once again
Deputy chief constable Simon Torr said: “One result of the work we have done to design the future of the force is to make sufficient savings to enable us to recruit once again.
“The first cohort will be composed of individuals who had already met the criteria, but who have had to wait for their opportunity to begin their careers as police officers.
“Next year, we hope to recruit more new officers and we also hope that many of them will be drawn from Nottinghamshire’s black and minority ethnic communities to enable the force to better reflect the diversity of the communities we serve.”
Supporting and strengthening the front line is the number one priority
Mr Torr revealed that ‘tough decisions’ had to be made in the way Nottinghamshire Police used its money from government.
He said: “Over the past few years, we have always insisted that supporting and strengthening the front line is the number one priority whenever we have had to make difficult choices about the way the Force allocates its funding.
“The past 18 months has been particularly challenging for the force and this challenge continues.
“We have made the tough decisions and innovated where possible to ensure the taxpayers of Nottinghamshire continue to receive the service they expect from their police force.”
