Nurse charged in connection with patient death at mental health hospital

A nurse from Highbury Hospital has been charged in connection with the 2022 death of a nineteen-year-old patient

A nurse has been charged in connection with the death of a patient in a Nottingham mental health facility.

Louise Furlong, 19, died in hospital on September 12, 2022 the day after an incident in which she was injured at Highbury Hospital.

Sylvia Quaye-Mensah, 41, has now been charged with misconduct in a public office in connection with the death, Notts Police said.

The nurse, from Ilkeston, was on duty at the time of the reported incident.

Quaye-Mensah is due to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (August 30).

Detective Inspector Craig Hall said, “We have been investigating this incident for some time and have now charged a suspect.

“Louise’s family have been informed of this development and remain in our thoughts.”

Highbury Hospital, in Highbury Vale, is an adult mental health facility run by Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust.
