Paddy Tipping pledges to keep police base in Southwell

Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner Paddy Tipping has pledged to keep a police base in Southwell.

It comes after Notts Police said it wanted to scale down the size of its offices in the town.

The force currently rents rooms from Southwell Town Council but says it needs less space than the current set-up provides.

Mr Tipping said: “I’m confident that we can maintain a police presence in Southwell and discussions with the council are going well.

“I hope that we can conclude the matter soon and positively but we do have other alternatives if that doesn’t prove possible.”

I appreciate how important it is to the public

He added discussions are under way with the council to reduce the size of the office space police are currently using, so that the money saved can be spent more wisely.

He added :”The public will always be able to contact their local police officers in Southwell, I appreciate fully how important that is to them.”
