Part of Nottingham city traffic hotspot shut by emergency roadworks

The westbound side of one of Nottingham’s busiest roads has been closed for emergency repairs to heating pipes.

The lanes on Shakespeare Street will be shut until May 2 while for work on the district heating system.

Roadworks will commence today and the contractors said hope to be finished before the end date.

Head of the operation Mark Bradbury said: “We found slight leaks on the footpath so we need to go in and excavate and repair the leaks.”

The work is being done across the road from the YMCA outside the former Nottingham City Police Station.

Shakespeare Street is a key road artery because it takes traffic from the west of the city centre out north towards Mansfield Road and vice versa.

Nottingham City Council produced a map showing the layout of the closures.

Minor delays are expected throughout the daytime during the work and road users are being asked to use the alternative routes on North Church Street, Burton Street and south Sherwood Street.

Bus routes through Shakespeare St will also be diverted during the repair time.
