A restaurant on one of Nottingham’s busiest city streets will be expanding after plans were approved by the council.

Bombay Delicatessen, on Carrington Street, will be taking over the floor above its current premises.

The office space will be transformed by a luxury Indian-themed decor.

Nottingham City Council approved the plans on Tuesday, February 4, giving the go-ahead building works to begin.

The first floor will now be turned into an expansion branded Passan’s Tea Room & Cocktail Lounge, named after owner Rahul Passan.

Customers can expect “small plates, specialist cocktails, and a curated selection of whiskeys” as part of the menu.

The restaurant plans to install a seven-metre bar as a centre piece, more dining tables and seating, couches, private booths and toilets.

There will be around 75 planned seating upstairs, allowing the deli to cater for bigger groups of people.

One of the features includes a unique ornate staircase from the ground floor deli to the first floor. A new bakery kitchen will be created to serve the deli’s truffles and chocolate samosas.

The amount of food prepared will increase because the restaurant will soon start to deliver online orders of its desserts nationwide.

Owner Rahul Passan said the space will “elevate” customers’ experience, and bring a “unique flair” to the city.

He said in a Facebook post earlier in January: “Bombay Deli has been a journey of growth, achieving great milestones in a short space of time.”

Bombay Delicatessen first opened on the corner of Carrington Street opposite the Broadmarsh Bus Station in April this year.

The restaurant has two other sites in West Bridgford and Hyson Green.
