Plans for new helipad at Queen’s Medical Centre

Plans for a new helipad and a multi-storey car park at the Queen’s Medical Centre have been submitted to Nottingham City Council.

The new helipad is planned to help support the region’s major trauma centre and will be located on top of a multi-storey car park at the south side of QMC.

Currently there is no helipad on site which means the air ambulance has to land at the University nearby.

Once landed patients are transferred  to the QMC’s emergency department but this can take up to 20 minutes.

Clinical Lead for QMC’s Major Trauma Centre, Adam Brooks said: “The first 60 minutes following a severe injury is known as the ‘golden hour’ and fast access to treatment is vital to give patients a fighting chance.

“We need people to get behind the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal to save time and, more importantly, save lives.”

He added that there is still a lot of fundraising that needs to be done to reach the needed target of three million pounds.

Jenny Wing, Head of Fundraising for Nottingham Hospitals Charity says: “We’ve received great support from people across the East Midlands so far but we still have a long way to go.”

“We need people to get behind the Saving Lives Helipad Appeal to save time and, more importantly, save lives.”

Upcoming major developments planned for Queen’s Medical Centre:

-New Medipark development – a new medical research facility

-518-space multi-storey car park

-Tram access making it the first hospital in the country to be connected by tram

-New south entrance for the tram to improve link to the hospital due to arrive in winter 2015/16
