Police begin investigation into historical child abuse in Nottingham.

Nottinghamshire police begin second investigation into historic child abuse in ten former care homes around the county.

The investigation, which has been named Operation Xeres, will examine 23 claims of child abuse from up to 70 years ago.

Operation Xeres will have a 20 person investigation team and aims to find out if the alleged abuse was systematic or organised.

The police told the BBC that due to the time that has passed that many of the records may no longer exist and some of the alleged perpetrators may since have died.

Operation Xeres follows on from an ongoing investigation, Operation Daybreak, that is also investigating child abuse in Nottinghamshire care homes.

  • Has seen 11 people arrested.
