Police cordon in Nottingham after machete recovered following ‘fight involving youths’

A police cordon was set up in Hockley after a fight involving youths.
A police cordon was set up in part of Nottingham city centre after a machete was recovered as armed officers investigated a fight involving youths.
Nottinghamshire Police blocked off Hockley at its junctions with Lower Parliament Street, Goose Gate and Cranbrook Street after being called at 11.40am on Thursday (February 27).
There were no injuries reported, but officers said an arrest was made after the blade was discovered.
Police cars and tape blocked off the road throughout the late morning and early afternoon, and the force urged anyone with information to get in touch.
A Nottinghamshire Police spokesperson originally said: “Officers were called to Lower Parliament Street, Nottingham city centre, around 11.40am today (Thursday February 27) following reports of a fight involving a group of youths.
“No injuries were reported and inquiries remain ongoing to identify those involved.”
Assistant Chief Constable Suk Verma later said:: “Armed officers were deployed and one machete was located and recovered. We believe this was the only weapon sighted and no injuries have been reported.
“An investigation has begun and one suspect has been arrested.
“Any activity of this sort is completely unacceptable and we will relentlessly pursue the offenders using all the available information and technology at our disposal.
“In the meantime, there will be an increased police presence in the area to reassure the public as we know the incident will have caused alarm and distress.
“As we have said previously, we have a vibrant city centre and we won’t let the actions of a minority destroy it for the majority.”
Anyone who saw what happened or who has any information is urged to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 221 of February 27, 2025.
