A plan for a chicken restaurant and bar in Beeston is under the spotlight over concerns from Nottinghamshire Police that it could contribute to town centre crime.

C & B Brew Co Ltd has applied for a new premises licence, due to be discussed at a Broxtowe Borough Council panel on Wednesday (June 18).

Reports published ahead of the meeting say the company is currently converting a “bare shell” unit in the square, in Station Road, Beeston, into a new craft ale and gourmet chicken restaurant which includes a bar and stage area for live music.

The space would allow for around 70 diners.

Licensing documents also say the premise has proposed “later than expected times” for alcohol sales, with planned sale hours from 9am until midnight Monday to Wednesday, 9am until 2am Thursday to Saturday and 10am until midnight on Sundays.

On New Year’s Eve, alcohol sales would run from 10am until 2am.

Live music and recorded music is also planned from 8pm until 11pm Sunday to Thursdays, 8pm until 11:30pm from Friday to Saturday and from 8pm until 1am on New Year’s Day.

The venue would also allow for live music on its stage, including solo singers, bands and comedy shows.

Nottinghamshire Police say in reports they have “great concern” for the impact it could have on existing antisocial behaviour and alcohol-related problems in the area.

Police reports on the plan say: “The issues in this area are often alcohol related and they result in higher than average levels of crime, disorder and nuisance.

“Many of the incidents involve anti-social behaviour from individuals who congregate in public areas, and main shopping areas.

“Crime levels show the high levels of alcohol-related anti-social behaviour and
alcohol confiscations.”

A witness statement by Nottinghamshire Police, to be read at Wednesday’s meeting, says between May 2024 and May 2025, there were 125 incidents recorded for Beeston Town Centre.

A total of 91 of these happened in the area surrounding where the new chicken restaurant would be, with the incidents related to antisocial behaviour and “theft of alcohol”.

Documents read: “Such behaviour causes nuisance to other persons using the area and residents can feel intimidated, as can members of the public, including children.”

Licensing papers say high-quality CCTV would feature throughout the premise, including entry and exit points and high-risk areas to help “deal with incidents of crime” and protect public safety.

They also state sound systems will be fitted with noise limiters, with doors and windows being closed during music to reduce “public nuisance”.

C & B Brew Co Ltd has been contacted for comment.

The application for the premises license will be decided at Wednesday’s meeting.
