Video: What the stars said about being inducted into the Hall of Fame
Motorpoint Arena will play host to a celebration of football to mark the induction of Nottingham Forest’s European Cup winners and Notts County into the National Football Museum Hall of Fame.
More than 3,000 football fans are expected to join past and present heroes on Thursday (November 3) evening as both Nottingham clubs prepare to enter the footballing elite.
The Forest legends and County team were chosen by a selection panel led by the museum president Sir Bobby Charlton with only a handful of clubs, players or teams being inducted each year.
Nottingham boxing champion Carl Froch will present the awards to his heroes.
Just some of the players that will be attending are Nottingham Forest’s double-European Cup winning captain John McGovern, the “Picasso of our game” John Robertson and England’s first £1 million player Trevor Francis.
John McGovern said: “Well as part of the Nottingham Forest team that was highly successful in the day its obviously a privilege that people have recognised it not just on a local level but a national level.
“And to get inducted into the Hall of Fame is just an honour that I think maybe the players think we did deserve.”
Representing Notts County are former player and manager Ian Richardson, former player and kitman Mark Draper and clubman Brian Stubbs who played more than 400 times for the Magpies.
Notts County’s record goalscorer Les Bradd said: “Notts County has a very special place in the world of football and we are thrilled to be given such an accolade on what will undoubtedly be a very special night for football in the city.”
Fans will get the chance to meet footballing heroes past and present as they share their own personal highlights from Nottingham’s rich footballing history.
The stars will also look to the future with achievements of the Nottingham City of Football project.
Managing Director of Nottingham City of Football Amanda Chambers said: “This will be a fantastic event to celebrate everything that is great about football in Nottingham, both on and off the field, across all generations, backgrounds and abilities.”
The event is being hosted by Nottingham City Council and will feature video footage from the Hall of Fame, special guests (the Sirrel, Clough and Taylor families), Forest goals from their league winning year and a dance performance of “Beautiful Game.”
