Video: John Sheridan on winning mentality ahead of Grimsby clash
Notts County manager John Sheridan wants the Magpies’ winning run to continue as Grimsby come to Meadow Lane tomorrow (Saturday September 3) at 3pm.
Notts come into the game on the back of three wins in a row in all competitions having beaten Crawley Town and Hartlepool twice; once in the league and once in the Checkatrade Trophy.
Although Sheridan expects a tough test, he thinks County should come out of the match with all three points as the home side.
We’re the home side so I expect us to win
He said: “I’m expecting a tough game against Grimsby – they’ll have well over 2,000 fans here.
“The last two or three years they’ve been winning a lot of football matches and they’ve been doing a really good job.
“They’ve scored a few goals in the last few games but they’ve conceded as well so we’ve got to look at both sides of their play, but we’re the home side I expect us to go and win the game.”
I don’t think there’s anything better than winning
Sheridan reckons that County have a very good chance of doing so coming into the game on the back of a run of wins.
He said: “I don’t think there’s anything better than when you’re winning.
“There’s still a lot of things we can do in our game a hell of a lot better and we’re working on them.
“We can go out with that winning belief and as a result you’ve got a better chance of winning before you even take to the pitch.”
The last time the two teams met was in the season that Notts County were promoted as champions from League Two in the 2009/10 season.
The teams met on February 17 2010 at Meadow Lane and played out a 1-1 draw with the Magpies’ Lee Hughes goal being cancelled out on the stroke of half time by Jamie Devitt.
Lee Hughes was then sent off in the final minute of the match.
In the reverse fixture in that season, Notts County won 1-0 at Grimsby 11 days earlier also thanks to a 69th minute Lee Hughes goal on February 6 2010.
The Magpies have played Grimsby 78 times in total with County winning 27 and Grimsby winning 32; 19 have been drawn.
The weather forecast for kick-off is for rain with temperatures reaching 16 degrees Centigrade.
