PREVIEW: Notts manager John Sheridan wants more belief from players ahead of Crewe visit

Notts County manager John Sheridan has said that he wants more belief from his players that they can get promoted from League 2.

Sheridan believes that the Magpies need to add more aggression and passion to their performances and wants leaders to come forward.

This comes as Notts prepare to host Crewe Alexandra at Meadow Lane on Saturday (October 15) after suffering three losses in all competitions in October.

The Magpies currently sit 10th in Sky Bet League 2 having picked up 17 points from 12 matches.

No-one speaks – it’s only me

John Sheridan said: “You have to have that hunger and edge to you and a bit of nastiness only as a footballer to get the three points.

“They have to sort themselves out a little bit more, don’t keep waiting for me because they will get sick of my voice.

“No-one speaks – it’s only me; I just don’t feel right when I’m not vocal.”

Video: Carl Dickinson on the goals the Magpies have conceded

Defender Carl Dickinson thinks that most of the goals conceded have been ‘pathetic.’

He’s unavailable for selection against Crewe after picking up a fifth yellow card of the season against Morecambe on Tuesday (October 11) night.

The former Premier League defender said: “I don’t like missing games and some of my bookings have been pathetic to be honest.

“Most of them I haven’t done anything really; like in Exeter away, I didn’t throw my hands up, swear or anything but got booked for shouting offside.

“Even the other night I tackled someone and the ref said I got the ball and took the man out after and then got booked.

“Sometimes there needs to be a bit of common sense and people are high on emotions and sometimes a little ‘calm down’ can help.”

Notts County’s record v Crewe Alexandra

Played: 41
Won: 21
Drawn: 7
Lost: 13

The last time the Magpies and Crewe were in the same league was in the 2014/15 season in League 1 when Notts were relegated from the league after Crewe finished two points above them to save their status.

However Notts completed the double over Crewe with the Magpies recording a 2-1 win at Meadow Lane on January 17 2015.

A Liam Noble penalty was cancelled out by Jamie Ness but then-debutant Billy Daniels netted in the 86th minute to secure all three points.

In the reverse fixture on September 30, the Magpies won 3-0 thanks to a brace from Jake Cassidy and one from Shaun Harrad.
