The Boat, Lenton

Address: High Street, Ruddington, Nottinghamshire, NG11 6DT

A few years ago, The Boat was designated an asset of Community Value, protecting it from demolition or development. Not that there’s much chance of that happening anyway, since this is a true neighbourhood pub with a loyal local following.

On the bar you’ll find up to six real ales and ciders, and the interior contains an intriguing mix of decor, from nautical memorabilia and darts trophies to the back end of a Cadillac, dedicated to Jerry Lee Lewis.

A Saturday night karaoke might not be to everyone’s taste, but this isn’t a pub for wide boys or posers; two more good reasons to come here.

Music? Karaoke, open mic nights, quite possibly occasional visiting Morris dancers.

Food? Themed food night and a basic pub menu – and really good value too.

People? This is a local pub for local people. Expect to meet a few characters.

Opinion? From the main road, you’d never know this place existed. But it’s well worth a short diversion from the tram or bus stop. You’ll be rewarded with a warm welcome.
