Recycle your Christmas tree and support the Royal British Legion

Residents are being urged to help the environment and raise money for charity by taking your Christmas tree to one of Nottinghamshire County Council’s recycling centres.

Each year, around eight million Christmas trees are sold in the UK and approximately 160,000 tonnes of Christmas trees that could have been recycled are simply thrown out.

Trees that are taken for recycling are either chipped to make paths in gardens and parks, or shredded for composting, or used as a waste resource.

For every 50 tonnes of Christmas trees the County Council receives at its recycling centres throughout January 2015, Nottinghamshire’s waste contractors, Veolia will donate £100 to The Royal British Legion, the chosen charity of County Council Chairman, Councillor Sybil Fielding for her year in office.

The Royal British Legion helps members of the Royal Navy, British Army, Royal Air Force, Reservists, Veterans and their families.

They also campaign to improve their lives, the annual Poppy Appeal and remember the fallen.

It is part of the annual ‘Tree-cycle’ campaign reminding you to recycle your tree at the end of the festive season.
