Reid hoping Forest players “forget all emotion” in Derby clash

Andy Reid is asking his new charges to be “football clever” on Saturday as the Reds make the 16-mile trip along Brian Clough Way to face bitter rivals Derby County.

There have been a number of red card dismissals over the years in this fixture with current Forest striker Dexter Blackstock being sent off in 2012 against the Rams, while Derby’s Jake Buxton has also been dismissed in this fixture in the past.

While neither are likely to figure in the sides’ starting XIs on Saturday, both managers will have to consider who can keep their cool on the big occasion.

Reid, who took up a role helping to coach the side after the sacking of Dougie Freedman said: “I think it’s important that you take all the emotion out of it. We have to prepare them properly.

“We’ve got to make sure the tactics are right and the team that we pick is right.”

Paul Williams and Reid will be looking at the experience of players like David Vaughan and Matt Mills on Saturday to ensure their players stay cool on the pitch.

Reid is assisting Williams in the management of the Reds and will be hoping they can build on a good performance on Tuesday night where they were unlucky to only draw with Hull 1-1, which included a contender for goal of the season from Reds midfielder Gary Gardner.
