A new scheme is asking residents and visitors to vote for their favourite drinking spot in the county of Nottinghamshire.
Best Bar None is a national scheme that is currently operating in over 70 areas across the U.K, but Nottinghamshire’s is the first to operate a truly-county wide scheme.
The scheme assesses premises to determine which are well run and managed responsibly and then posts the selected venues on its website and asks the public to vote for their favourites for a chance at winning a Kindle Fire Tablet.
The scheme in Nottinghamshire has been jointly funded by the Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) and Nottinghamshire County Council.
PCC Paddy Tipping said: “Best Bar None, in encouraging licensees to act responsibly and take pride in their premises, makes it a win win situation as local people and visitors benefit from well-run and, most importantly, safe pubs, clubs and bars to visit, encouraging increased custom.”
The scheme has also gained the support of some high profile local and national sponsors, including NET, the operators of the tram, licensing solicitors Fraser Brown and drinks manufacturer Diageo.
NET Marketing Manager, Jamie Swift said: “We’re delighted to be supporting this award scheme and, now we’ve opened our extended tram network through to Clifton and Chilwell, we’re covering an even wider area with services that help people get to their favourite bars safely and easily. They can leave the car at home and enjoy their nights out without any transport worries.”
Anyone wishing to vote for their favourite spot to enjoy a tipple can visit www.nottinghamshirebbn.com.
Voting closes 30th September, and the winning venues will be announced at the Nottinghamshire Best Bar None Awards evening on 26th October.
