Restoration project under way to restore Grade two listed properties

Work has begun to restore two Grade two listed properties at Newstead Abbey.

The £238,000 project is being carried out by construction firm Robert Woodhead and will take around three months to complete.

The cottage restoration project was awarded to the Heritage team of Robert Woodhead earlier this year.

The Team at Woodhead can draw upon a lot of experience for this project, having just undertaken heritage restoration projects at Lincoln Castle and the National Civil War Centre in Newark.

Once restored, the buildings are going to used as a holiday let and as a Honeymoon Suite as part of a wedding package at Newstead Abbey.

Ynys Crowston-Boaler, Assistant Buildings and Operations Manager at Newstead Abbey said: “The buildings were completely derelict and in a very poor state, so were trying to take the properties back to how they were orignally and how they should be.”

“The property was the former head gardeners property and it will hopefully be a nice cosy place to enjoy a weeks holiday.”
