Fears have been raised Hucknall residents will be left “effectively cut off” if roadworks go ahead on two of its main roads at once.
Watnall Road will be intermittently closed until December 10 as the road and footpath are reconstructed by Nottinghamshire County Council.
Nottingham City Council is also planning work at the junction of Moor Bridge Road and Hucknall Lane, which is due to start in the autumn.
Area County Councillor Lee Waters (Ind) has issued a plea to the city council not to start work until the previous job has finished.
“The town is already in gridlock due by works on Watnall Road near the bypass, which is closed until December,” he told a meeting of Nottinghamshire County Council on Thursday (July 18).
“I have been inundated with concerns from residents. I know the work is important but six months seem excessive.
“I have been told the complexity means it’s unavoidable, but it seems excessive.
“Meanwhile, alterations to the junction at Moor Bridge mean Hucknall residents will be effectively cut off.
“This is what happens when one council doesn’t talk to another – the people of Hucknall lose out.
“I’m making a plea to Nottingham City Council not to start work until Watnall Road is completed.”
The Watnall Road work plans will affect the stretch between the A611 Hucknall Bypass to the junction with Nabbs Lane.
A diversion route will run from the Hucknall Bypass along Wood Lane, Common Lane and Nabbs Lane
The work on Moor Bridge Road will introduce new bus lanes and traffic signals, removing the mini-roundabout.
Nottingham City Council has been contacted for comment.
