Video: Hot air balloon footage of East Midlands Airport
A fleet of hot air balloons have captured unique pictures of East Midlands Airport.
Members of the Nottingham and Derby Hot Air Balloon Club flew over the airport on Sunday, November 13.
The trip was made possible by the airport’s temporary closure for runway resurfacing.
Five balloons took off from a field near Castle Donington at 2pm.
Neil Humphries helped organise the flight and piloted one of the balloons.
He said: “It was an extremely unusual flight.
“Normally we wouldn’t be allowed anywhere near the airport as it is a restricted air space.
“However the airport is being refurbished so it gave us this unique opportunity to actually fly over it.”
The runway works are taking place at weekends, every Saturday from 8pm till Monday at 8pm, with the completion date due to be December 19.
Mr Humphries added: “It was an interesting flight because the views were so different.
“When you fly into an airport in a plane you can’t really see much of it but we got a bird’s eye view.
“The flight lasted just under an hour and our balloon landed in a field near Woodhouse Eaves.”
